White water barrel rentals are great to be used as weights in hard surfaces when stakes cant be used to support our High Peak Frame Tent Rentals and Party Packages.  

Can You Set Up Tents on Concrete, Asphalt, or Patios?

Yes we can absolutely set up tents on hard surfaces. If we can reach nearby grass or mulch within 10 feet of the tent legs, we’ll use our heavy-duty straps to anchor the tent safely.

If no grass is accessible, we use 55-gallon water barrels (over 450 lbs when filled) to secure the tent.

Here’s What You’ll Need to Know:

• You must provide hose access on setup day so we can fill the barrels

• We charge $50 per water barrel for the weekend rental which covers the additional setup time as well. 

• Important: Tents secured with water barrels might not be able to be installed with sidewalls depending on weather forecasts at our discretion. This is part of our safety policy and helps prevent wind hazards.

• You’ll need 2 barrels per tent leg that cannot reach grass. Due to the low surface friction of plastic barrels we require at least 2 barrels per leg to install on surfaces where we are unable to stake.  There are no exceptions to our safety policy. Each barrel is roughly 450-550 pounds once full. 

Why 2 Barrels? 

 1 barrel Is not equal to 1 stake although you may have seen some companies irresponsibly using them as equal swap outs. A 3ft stake properly secured provides 800- 2000 pounds of holding strength both vertically and horizontally. The most common misconception comes from the assumption a 55 gallon water barrel weighing nearly 500 pounds is equal to 500 pounds of holding strength, while that may be true for vertical forces, horizontally it is much lower due to the COF (coefficient of friction) meaning the barrel can easily slide sideways along asphalt surfaces.  Due to this feature a 500 pound water barrel only provides 150-200 pounds of horizontal holding power depending on the surface friction of the asphalt or concrete against the barrel. Therefore we have had to create our own strict safety protocols to go above the industry standard and require at least 2 barrels per leg wich provides 300-450 of horizontal holding strength along with the added vertical support.
